White-sided dolphin

Size: 2.40 to 3 metres

Life span: about 30 years.
Dorsal fin: large sickle-shaped.
Blow: weak and usually inconspicuous at a distance.

We encounter this species in temperate and subarctic waters. In the waters of the islands, it occurs mostly in summer. At other times it frequents the high seas.
The white-sided dolphin is a born acrobat and loves to jump out of the water. Gregarious, it is found in groups of 10 to 50 individuals near the coast and in groups of more than 500 individuals in high seas. It has a small black beak on top and white or pale gray underneath. It feeds mostly on herring, mackerel, salmon, calamars etc. ..., and is often associated with fin whales for food.
