Pygmy Sperm whale

Order: Odontocetes
Family: Kogiidae
Other name: small sperm whale
Latin name: Kogia breviceps
Size: 2.5 to 4 metres
Weight: 350 to 400 kg
Dorsal fin: triangular

The pygmy sperm whale live in warm and temperate waters of the 2 hemispheres
It is a fairly lazy animal. It looks more like a large dolphin than like a whale, it looks even more like a shark, with its false gill behind the eyes. Why do you call this animal sperm? It is essentially because of the morphology of the skull which, like his giant cousin lacks teeth on the upper jaw. The mandible has 12 to 16 on each side.
It feeds on squid, small fish and crustaceans.
To dive the pygmy sperm whale arches its back strongly and shows its dorsal fin; the tail never goes out of the water. It seems to drip and disappears.
