Size: 6.5 m at birth, 20 m in adulthood
Weight: 30-50 tons
Dorsal fin: located at 2/3 of the way back, 60 cm tall
Longevity: between 50 and 100 years, probably no more than 75 years
Blow : shaped like an inverted cone, 4 to 6 m high.
This is the second largest whale, after the Blue Whale. It is observed from spring to autumn. This animal moves alone or in small groups formed when food availability is abundant.
It is also a migratory species. It occurs everywhere in the cold waters of the two hemispheres.
The male and female 22 m 24 m respectively, on average. Its weight can reach 85 tons. The back is brown or dark gray, the belly is white, the fins are white below. The mandible is white only on the right side of the animal. This allows, when well seen, to identify it without any ambiguity and not confuse it with the Sei whale. The triangular dorsal fin is rather large, about 60 cm in height.
