About us

The association was officially FRAG'ILES SPM since 1992 and focuses on the study, protection and promotion of natural and living environment in the archipelago of Saint Pierre and Miquelon thanks to the following actions

- Improve knowledge on the natural environment and its protection in collaboration with other agencies,
- Analyze the environmental problems in the archipelago, to give objective advice and solutions by participating in committees that have to treat them, distinguishing itself from any political (planning, conservation and waste sites, waste treatment, etc. .).
- Promoting educational activities in collaboration with governments and various associative movements (teaching, discovery of the environment, exhibitions, conferences etc..).
-Inform and educate the public about the actions (various issues), conduct any legal action for the conservation of nature and the environment.

It includes among its many volunteers and people anxious to ensure the protection of the environment of our archipelago, hungry for knowledge of local fauna and flora resources.

The actions of SPM FRAG'ILES are many and varied but tend, through them, mostly to watch over this French specificity, including rich boreal forest and the only haven for rare species such as puffins, or piping Plover.
Many volunteers, like Roger ETCHEVERRY and Daniel Abraham (not to mention the most important) traveled for years all four corners of our islands to identify local biodiversity and gradually build an extraordinary database.
It is in this spirit of preservation and sharing of knowledge, the association has embarked on studies on the biodiversity of the archipelago and more specifically: marine mammals, seabirds, species and places emblematic of our islands ....
In order to best ensure these missions, to lend a hand to the volunteers and also incorporate the local youth issues and the preservation of this development, the association SPM FRAG'ILES recruits during the summer, many young students environment. A job that they wanted local, because it is essential that you appropriate our wealth to better share.
These missions are the first fruits of the growing interest of the population to preserve its natural heritage. Learn, transmit, share gradually to allow St. Pierre and Miquelon, but also the many visitors to appreciate more our archipelago and to preserve these many treasures ...
