Watching Whales, whales, orcas and whales

Saint Pierre et Miquelon is a small French islands, covering an area of 242 square kilometers in the North Atlantic, about 20 km from the coasts (Southern Newfoundland).
These waters once teeming with fish, remains the home of an underwater fauna rich and abundant. Today, it is not less than 21 species of marine mammals that have been identified (cetaceans, pinnipeds) in the region. These animals are observed occasionally or regularly, depending on the species during their migratory passage. Some of them appear in the spring, their presence is noted until they leave the region to reach their breeding grounds in warmer waters south. The lifestyle of these giants of the ocean, mysterious and surprising, is the subject of studies and raises questions of quantities in the scientific world.
Locally, naturalists and photographers are engaged and passionate spend valuable time watching marine mammals and their enumeration in order to deepen knowledge.
During the past 30 years, the information has gradually expanded database now consistent. We can now state of knowledge specific to the archipelago, with a methodical compilation work done by Mr Roger Etcheberry in conjunction with other observers in Newfoundland and Bermuda. This site promotes this research by synthesizing an indispensable tool for exchange and networking of information locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
You can discover all species traversing the waters surrounding St. Pierre and Miquelon.
The Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae), particularly present in our waters is the subject of documentation more consistent
